A former British man who has been accused of buying anti-Viagra pills for men in Britain for up to £10,000 has been given a five-month prison term after pleading not guilty to charges related to his involvement in the fake pill trade.
Alex Morgan, 43, of London, was convicted in the UK's largest ever case of 'unlawful buying' of prescription drugs, including Viagra.
In March, he was found guilty on charges of illegal sale of prescription drugs and conspiracy, and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Morgan, who was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading not guilty in November, was given an eight-month prison term for illegal sales of Viagra and other drugs, and for conspiracy to sell and distribute counterfeit drugs, which he claimed was a crime.
He is also ordered to pay a £15,000 fine and costs £3,500 in fines.
In his case, he has admitted he purchased Viagra without a prescription and sold counterfeit versions, and has pleaded not guilty.
Morgan was sentenced last month following a four-month investigation by the British Health & Social Care Agency (HSC) into fake Viagra.
The court heard the HSC had received reports of fake Viagra sold online in Britain and abroad and had purchased medicines containing sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, for a total of £1,000. The drugs were being sold for a total of £10,000.
Morgan admitted to the HSC that he and a number of other men at the time bought Viagra from other men through websites and that his purchases included products sold to his own customers, and had then advertised for sale to other men.
In the course of the investigation, HSC officers found Viagra pills on the internet that were being sold in Britain to men from the United Kingdom, and had been advertised for sale to men who could not find a reputable online pharmacy.
When the fake Viagra was seized, the HSC found counterfeit tablets for which the drugs were not listed on the packet.
In addition, a counterfeit Viagra tablet was found to contain sildenafil and was labelled to contain sildenafil citrate, a compound known as PDE5 inhibitor.
The tablets had been sold to the man who bought Viagra from Morgan, who also was not named in the search warrant.
He was not arrested and the HSC found the tablets, which he said were "fraudulently obtained" by other men who had bought Viagra from him.
The man who purchased the tablets was found to have no known medical conditions.
The HSC found no evidence that men at the time were buying fake Viagra online.
Morgan said he would rather not accept any charges and would rather go to prison.
'It is not appropriate and inappropriate for the Court to take a guilty verdict if you are guilty of buying and selling Viagra, and it is appropriate to take a guilty verdict if you are not guilty of illegal sale of prescription drugs,' he said.

Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.
ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.
Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.
“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”
